Regents’ Scholarship is a scholarship program offered to first-generation students at Texas A&M University. The program offers renewable scholarships to eligible students for up to four years.

In 2019, beneficiaries were offered scholarships worth up to $5,000. The program was first awarded in 2004 and has continued to improve the lives of students with free education. Last year 2020, each candidate for the scholarship received a scholarship award of $6,000.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the Regents’ Scholarship, candidates must meet the following criteria.

•Candidate must be a first-generation college student, which means neither parent must have obtained a bachelor’s degree.
•Must be from a family who earns a minimum of $40,000 per year or less.
•Must be a freshman at Texas A&M University College Station, or McAllen Higher Education Center, Engineering Academy at Blinn Bryan and Engineering Academy at Galveston.
•Candidates must be enrolled to study a full-time program at the University.
•The scholarship is need-based, so the scholarship will only be awarded to students with financial needs.
•Must exhibit academic potentials and be able to maintain certain academic progress.

Application Procedures

Interested and eligible aspirants can apply using one of the following ways. Candidates can apply by either completing the Free Application For Federal Students Aid (FAFSA) for Texas A&M University, or the Texas Application for Student Financial Aid (TASFA). The application deadline is January 15, however, candidates are urged to complete their FAFSA as early as January 1 to ensure that the FAFSA is processed by Texas A&M University before the January 15 deadline.

Regents’ Scholars Program is offered to approximately 850 students yearly. Candidates who file their applications early stand a higher chance of being chosen for the scholarship, therefore applicants are advised to apply early for the available spots before they are filled.
